Thumbs Up: value for the dollar, service

Thumbs Down: the trout

Recommendations: Try the $39.95 Five Course Prix-Fixe Menu for the best value. The menu does change often so check out the website for the latest L’Ecole has to offer.

“CID Highlight” – Passion Fruit Baked Alaska: CID Rating 4.5 out of 5

Omelette Norvegienne aux fruit de la passion

I have had baked alaska on several occassions but this by far is the tastiest interpretation I’ve had. The torched cream, frozen passion fruit filling and crust was perfectly layered for every satisfying bite.

Recommendations: Try all the flavors first before choosing your stroll in the park flavor!!

“CID Highlight” – Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream: CID Rating 4 out of 5

The fresh tasting strawberries and chunky cheesecake bites found within this all natural (no preservatives) ice cream was a great snack for a walk down 8th street on a warm, breezy spring evening. Pair it with a crispy and crunchy wafer cone and you have a great treat.

Thumbs Up: Max’s Three Layer Chocolate Concoction with Toffee Bananas
Thumbs Down: pricey, crowded, value for the dollar

Recommendations: If you go, go early if not at all! It’s not worth coming if you’re a true fine chocolate-lover.

“CID Highlight” – Max’s Three Layer Chocolate Concoction with Toffee Bananas: CID Rating 3 out of 5

Milk Chocolate cream layered with toffee bananas and white chocolate chunks, topped with whipped cream. Served with crunchy wafer balls and a biscotti on the side ringing in at $9.75. If you like bananas, then this dish is for you. It was a little hard to eat considering the small spout for the jar. But nothing a small coffee spoon can’t handle. The fresh bananas mixed in with the gooey milk chocolate cream hit two spots.

Overall CID rating 2.50 out of 5

Thumbs Up: gyoza skin
Thumbs Down: retched-smelling bamboo shoots, heart-attack pork belly

Recommendations: Customize your order, “No smelly bamboo for me, please!”

“CID Highlight” – Pork Gyoza: CID Rating 3 out of 5

This dish was the highlight of my meal tonight though still nothing to write home about. The gyoza skin was thin, light, and crispy on one side. The filling however needed a bit more seasoning. I still prefer the pork gyoza at Sapporo.

Thumbs Up: creative rolls, paradise, $1 sushi and sashimi, $3 rolls
Thumbs Down: crispy duck salad

Recommendations: Stick to the rolls! Better value for the dollar.

“CID Highlight” – The Hawaiian: CID Rating 5 out of 5

Eel and mango with spicy crunchy salmon and tobiko. The thin slices of mango added a hint of sweetness but the true mango flavor didn’t come through. But I loved it none-the-less! (See picture below)

“CID Highlight” – Meet the Chefs: CID Rating 5 out of 5

I call them the three amigos. Not only were they making delicious food but they were having fun while doing so. I definitely recommend sitting chef-side! Don’t run Morimoto, I’m your biggest fan!!!

Thumbs Up: bbq pork, lumpiang, fresh melon juice, value for the dollar

Thumbs Down: closes early, doesn’t accept amex, not much in decor

Recommendations: Order the dessert to go if you get too full on dinner!! It’s not worth missing.

“CID Highlight” – Pork BBQ: CID Rating 5 out of 5

I have a new love of sweet marinated pork. The Pork BBQ definitely takes the cake over my long time love, the grilled porkchops at Pho Bang (in Elmhurst). The only thing missing was that delicious carrot citrus dipping juice that Pho provides. That would absolutely make this dish complete. Coming in at $2.25 per stick, this dish was a steal!! The pork melts in your mouth leaving a sweet after-taste from the delicious marinade.
