The fresh tasting strawberries and chunky cheesecake bites found within this all natural (no preservatives) ice cream was a great snack for a walk down 8th street on a warm, breezy spring evening. Pair it with a crispy and crunchy wafer cone and you have a great treat.

The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and let us try almost all the flavors. The space is bright, very clean, and modern in design.

The Selection of Ice Cream and Sorbet

Pistachinut Ice Cream: CID Rating 3.5 out of 5

Not the best I’ve had but close to it. I love the toasted, crunchy pistachios found in every bite.

Melon Sorbet: CID Rating 3 out of 5

The melon sorbet was nice but I couldn’t really taste the cantaloupe. They definitely need to up the essence of the main ingredient.

You can also find a variety of chocolates at this shop. Will definitely head back again to try them but with caution since the prices are a little hefty as you can see from the chart above.

“CID Highlight” – Pineapple Fried Rice: CID rating 5 out of 5

Rice is my life. I love everything and anything about rice. The pineapple fried rice at Spice on University is the best I’ve ever had. All the ingredients tasted fresh and work harmoniously well together while still maintaining their distinct flavors. The cashews were crunchy and the shrimp (unlike its comparables) were not miniature in size. The portion of this dish is great for either sharing or eating as the main entree.

Fried Snapper in Red Curry: CID rating 4.5 out of 5

The snapper fillet is fried to perfection, crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The curry with bamboo shoots and peppers is delicious and can be served on its own with rice. A yummy dish overall!

Recommendations: Great for a quick sweet treat before or after the movies at Stadium 14!

“CID Highlight” – Da Bomb (Bomboloni): CID rating 4 out of 5

Homemade deep‐fried brioche, dusted with cinnamon and sugar, and filled with vanilla cream. Da Bomb is a latest addition to my list of things to indulge in twice a year. It would take a six month craving for me to pay $5 for just three of these soft, moist pockets of cream.

At the corner of 8th Street and University Place: CID rating 4 out of 5

Is that Mr Softee? No wait it’s another kind of sweet treat. I love the truck. It’s cost effective, makes your business mobile and just overall fun. Growing up in Corona, Queens, all the kids used to run out to the street every time we hear the tune playing even when the Mr Softee truck was blocks away. This is reminiscent of those days without the mind-numbing tune.

A Smooth Indulgence (Chocolate Bread Pudding): CID rating 4 out of 5

A spin on the classic chocolate custard dessert, topped with vanilla crème anglaise. I ordered bread pudding from Tribeca Grill last year during restaurant week and on several occasions at other fine establishments. They were always either too dry and cake-like, lacked flavor or just had no balance of texture. The chocolate pudding at Dessert Truck had two of the three covered. The chocolate layer below was moist and gooey, and the anglaise was light enough to compliment the chocolate flavor. What could have made this dish a 5 out of 5? Adding a bit of crunch? Nuts?
